GOLD SEAL UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2008

DID YOU KNOW
Since 1993 over 6,500 Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators and, more recently, Construction Safety Coordinators, have been certified through Gold Seal.
In 2006, however, the certification rate doubled to 300.
In 2007 it doubled again to 600.
What lies behind the surge of interest in Gold Seal.  The answer, for the most part, is the emergence of a corporate-level interest in management certification.  In the past few months more than a dozen companies have asked all of their construction managers to become certified.  In the Fall of 2008 we’ll be examining some of the reasons behind this, and the benefits to large and small companies.

DID YOU KNOW
Trades experience provides credits toward a Gold Seal certification.
A construction-related trades license will assist in advancing toward certification as a Project Manager, Superintendent or Estimator.
Experience as a heavy equipment operator qualifies for credit towards certification as a Superintendent, Roadbuilding and Heavy Construction.

GOLD SEAL UPDATE - JUNE 2008

  • The April 11 Gold Seal exam saw 138 construction managers writing across Canada.  49 of these were Construction Safety Coordinators.  15 candidates were from the Roadbuilding/Heavy Construction sector, 52 from General Contracting, 11 from Mechanical Contracting, 10 from Electrical Contracting and 15 from the Specialty Trades. GOLD SEAL UPDATE - MAY 2008

With four months gone in 2008 Gold Seal has received almost 300 applications. The current year looks like it will be on par with 2007’s record certification rate.

  • The Winnipeg Construction Association recently held a breakfast meeting for 50 Gold Seal certified personnel.  Staff provided a program update including refinements to the Construction Safety Coordinator exam and a marked increase in the variety of construction management courses being offered across the country.  Participants provided valuable feedback on Gold Seal, noting in particular that they wanted their company executives to be more aware of the value of the program.

  • In a similar vein the Niagara Construction Association held a Gold Seal information event for its members.  Interest was strong from individuals and company representatives.  The day also included training for Association personnel as well as a meeting with local college representatives.

  • Winnipeg has also announced the latest Gold Seal Designated Project, a partnership between the Winnipeg Construction Association, Red River College and Bockstael Construction Ltd.  The construction of the $15 million Red River College Heavy Equipment Transportation Centre will include best-efforts to certify all construction management staff by the end of the project.
